Conversations With Chinatown
‘Conversations With Chinatown’ is a preamble to Chinatown Crossings* – a promenade theatre experience by Drama Box that presents the historically and culturally rich precinct of Chinatown in its multi-faceted glory – which will open on 22 June 2018.
Co-organised with Singapore Heritage Society and Chinatown Heritage Centre, this chit-chat session will bring together Victor Yue, Yip Yew Chong, and Carmen Low, who have spent many of their growing up years in Chinatown. Victor Yue is a heritage enthusiast who has lived in different parts of Chinatown all his life, while Yip Yew Chong is the man behind Chinatown’s interesting wall murals depicting old scenes of the area and grew up in Sago Lane when it was a street of death houses, and Carmen Low is a partnership and community enabler whose family has owned a traditional Chinese medicine business in Chinatown for over three generations.
This session will be moderated by Chua Ai Lin, Executive Director of Singapore Heritage Society, and it aims to bring together like-minded people interested in the heritage of Chinatown to interact on their stories, encounters, and hopes for the multi-faceted precinct.
Admission to Conversations With Chinatown is free and limited to 40 people only.
